MY OTHER WHOLE
I stand here today so thankful to be alive and living in the awareness of God’s activity in my life. It is such an incredible journey we are all on together:
- The adventure of coming out of darkness into the light
- Moving from unconscious to conscious
- The journey of becoming our true, authentic self
- Embracing our wholeness
I think we are searching for the same thing in ourselves. Working to move past the false images we have adopted and finding the authentic, powerful person we really are.
Don’t you wish you had been raised with the knowledge of your inner power and authority like Jesus was? Maybe when we find (embrace) that in Jesus we will embrace it in ourselves or vice-versa.
Most of us were not empowered at early ages to make wise choices and lived authentically.
“You have no power except what is given you by my heavenly Father” Jesus Christ to Pontius Pilate The Bible tells us that the people respected Jesus because “He spoke with authority.” When we connect with God, we are authorized to be authentic and we, therefore, bear the highest and only authority. We are only damaging ourselves when we transfer undue power to another human being. While landlords, police officers, doctors, attorneys, including our parents, husbands, and wives have the authority of their roles, they do not have authority over your spirit. We are all equal spiritually.
In relationships, Alan Cohen, in a Deep Breath of Life, reminds us that, “…if you believe you are less than whole and you look for someone else to make you whole, you will only lose. One-half times one-half makes one-quarter, and you end up being even less than when you started. If you bring yourself as a whole person to another whole person, one times one is still one, and you both remain whole as individuals and as a couple….Good relationships are built on two individuals walking side by side to the light. The other person is not the object of our happiness, but a partner in adventure. We do not need these other people, but we can certainly enjoy them. They do not have the power to give or take away our good but they can add depth, color, beauty, reward and delight to our life.”
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were all living from the wholeness of our being and standing in the power of God within us?

SCREW LOOSE
We were talking last week about giving yourself permission to move out of old patterns and beliefs. Your homework was to give yourself permission to believe in enough! You are enough! There is more than enough!
We live in an abundant universe. One person’s good doesn’t take away another’s good!
Alan Cohen, in his book, Deep Breath of Life, relates the story of petitions being handed around to sign against the establishment of cable TV. At that time, cable was just an idea and movie owners feared that if people were able to watch movies at home, they would stop attending the movie theaters. Now cable has become almost as common as the telephone and both theaters and cable are booming. In addition, he says, home video is an enormous business, with Pay-Per-View also a thriving enterprise.
The notion of competition is fear-based, Alan states, and has little value in a creative world. “There is room in the world for many good ideas. The element that determines your success in a venture is not what the person around the corner is doing, but what you are doing. Invest your work with integrity, caring, creativity, and service, and you are sure to succeed.”
He further tells us to “eliminate from your mind the notion that someone else can take away your good. You are the source of your life and experience and everything that comes to you or goes from you is a result of your consciousness. It is quite literally possible for everyone on the plant to succeed gloriously at whatever their heart calls them to do.”
So, what’s stopping us? We have a screw loose! Alan Cohen tells this story. “After I built a sauna at my home, I began to have electrical outages. I discovered that when the sauna was on at the same time as the hot tub, the house’s main breaker would trip off. I concluded that the power required by the sauna and spa was too much for the house’s electrical capacity, so I made a rule that the sauna and hot tub could not be used at the same time. When my electrician friend, Gil, came by, I told him about the problem, and he instructed me, ‘Turn on everything in the house.’
“Won’t that blow the circuit?” I asked him.
‘There’s no way it should. Your electrical capacity is great enough to handle everything you have and more.’ “I went around the property and turned on the sauna, spa, oven, washer, dryer, and other major appliances (inwardly praying that Gil knew what he was doing).”
‘Aha! I think I see your problem…This screw is loose. When you have a loose screw, the circuit heats up and trips the breaker.’ “He tightened the screw and told me, ‘This should solve the problem. Now you can run anything you want at any time.’”
Alan states, “I couldn’t have asked for a better lesson on abundance. I had been thinking in terms of a limited universe…There’s just so much available, so I better start choosing between things that I want because there’s not enough to go around. Gil, on the other hand, held a huge consciousness that there’s enough supply for everything I needed. I was thinking small, and he was thinking big.”
So, as Alan reminds us, if you think there’s not enough to go around, rethink your belief system. Your circuit may be much larger than you believe and your problem “might not be that your supply is limited, but that one little screw is loose. Don’t curse the source, tighten the screw.”
We can laugh when we think of having a crew loose because it colloquially means we aren’t in our right mind. In this case, it is the truth. Anytime we are believing in lack we aren’t in our right minds. We are in ego’s mind of limitation. Right mindedness means being connected to Divine Mind AND being in the flow of abundant good.
We have to ask ourselves, do we have a loose screw in consciousness that is short circuiting our supply? Or, is our mind tightly bolted down in spiritual principle?
When we attempt to apply positive thinking and do not get the results we desire, we must look not to the principles, which always work, but to our application of the principles. The laws of manifestation are impersonal; the Universe will put them to work for or against us, depending on whether we apply them intelligently or erroneously.
We may be praying or visioning for one result consciously, while affirming the contrary subconsciously. We pray for more abundance and then let our mind go into a tailspin of worry when we see an ominous newspaper headline. We affirm good health but then get significant mileage out of telling the story of our illness.
To move ahead, we cannot afford to cancel out our good work by feeding our holy mind thoughts and words to the contrary. Become aware of your subtlest indulgence in thoughts, feelings, and energies that negate the good you are trying to create. Keep coming back to what you want and stop focusing on what you don’t want – especially in your thoughts about finances and prosperity. The key to abundance is to get your priorities in order. Prosperity begins with a state of mind, not a bankbook figure.
October 4, 2009 – “PERMISSION TO MOVE”
Last week, we talked about healing our core issues by bringing everything into the thought of God, who is everywhere present in you and around you.
I gave you the homework of bringing your challenge and you to God, saying 1 God thought for 1 minute – micro-movements. Hold that God thought for just 1 minute!
We can make changes 1 minute at a time. It doesn’t seem so big or impossible when we take it in small, manageable increments.
In order to create lasting , positive change in your life, you must give yourself permission to: Feel, Fail, Say No, and Take Care of Yourself.
Today, I give you permission to feel; meaning, don’t stuff your feelings. Try something new without fear of failure. Remember it took Thomas Edison 1000 attempts before he perfected the light bulb. Say “No” to things that do not resonate with your heart. If you are always saying yes, because you think people won’t like you if you say no, then your “yes’s” lose their impact. You are not expressing your authentic self when you say yes but mean no. It’s the same as remembering to take care of “you” first. As selfish as this may sound, if you always stay busy taking care of everyone else first, your “glass” becomes empty and there is nothing left for you; then you are good to no one because there is nothing left.
Take micro-breaks, just 5 minutes a few times a day. Of course, this means you will remember to turn off all electronics (phone, computer, TV, etc.) for those 5-minute interludes when you go to God. Taking just 5 minutes, a few deep breaths, connecting to your Source, will help to remind you that you are Divinely guided and directed, and that the Presence of God surrounds you, is within you, and everywhere present throughout your day.
When you take these 5-minutes interludes, you are empowering yourself because you are connecting with Spirit. When you connect with God moment by moment, your life will be filled with more positive, productive energy and you will begin to draw to you the good you desire to experience. It takes practice and patience and faith. Each minute you invest with a positive thought will pay off.
September 27, 2009 – “PRESS HOLD”
I have just finished telling you the story about Cliff Young, the 61-year-old who won a marathon over men many years his junior. While others slept during the night, Cliff did not know you were suppose to stop and sleep, and finished the race far in front on his competitors.
Cliff held only the thought of running – and that’s what created his winning experience. The young marathon runners held the thought that they must run 18 hours and sleep 6. It was the commonly held thought – the collective consciousness that they didn’t challenge or change. Both the elder man and the young had the same goal – win the marathon, but they took different paths to the goal based on their thoughts held in belief.
The point is: It is the thoughts we hold as beliefs that create the outcomes, not the actions we take.
You can be taking every right action to achieve your goals but if your belief is – you aren’t worthy – things never work out – something always happens to block my good – you will be sabotaged by the belief, and failure is inevitable.
You ask, how do we change the thought and achieve the desired outcome? We do it one thought at a time!
We catch ourselves in the midst of a negative thought and we stop and shift to a positive thought.
I have been teaching people to change their mind and change their lives for over 20 years now. I have taught you that in order to live the full expression of life, we must heal our old beliefs one at a time and replace each of them with Truth affirmations. It is a process that works.
Today I’m going to be like old Cliff Young because I have realized there is a different way to do it.
What if we don’t have to hold a lot of different positive thoughts – just one?
What if we change all those negative beliefs with just ONE thought?
What if there is just one thing to learn – not many things?
Here it is – Learn to bring everything into the thought of the Presence of God and PRESS HOLD.
Bring our experiences into the thought of the Presence of God and bring any detail, any special matter, and any problem into the thought of the presence of God. When you bring the Divine Presence and your problem together, and you add yourself, remembering you are the living Christ consciousness in potential, and you do this consciously – the three become one.
Proverbs 23:7 says “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
If we desire peace, we must bring the thought of peace into the thought of the Presence of God, PRESS HOLD on the mind chatter; hold that God thought (thoughts held in mind…)
If we desire healing…bring the thought of health and wholeness into the God thought.
Ask yourself, what do I want from this experience?
Withdraw your attention from any condition or situation and it will diminish. Give your attention to that which you desire to experience, bring it into a conscious contact with the Presence of God and Divine Life will be at work in a profound way to bring your experience of human life, and your spiritual nature to a state of Oneness with God.
It takes practice to bring our thoughts, wishes, desires and challenging experience into the thought of the Presence of God, but you will soon learn that consciously bringing together the thought of the Presence of God, you, and your problem will bring everything into harmony. The result is peace, healing, Oneness.
We practice by making little micro-movement in consciousness. We give ourselves permission to hold the God thought for 1 minute.
One minute is doable! Don’t sabotage yourself by saying, “Okay, I am only going to hold God thoughts today.”
Just 1 thought – 1 minute. The Presence of God surrounds me and is within me.
I’m going to continue next week and expand on these micro-movements.

STOP THIEF!
A thought came to me awhile back that there is one underlying cause for all the conflicts, divisiveness and judgments in the world. I have prayed about it, reflected on it, and alas, have become very passionate about correcting it. In fact, I feel compelled today to declare it as my personal mission statement. Want to hear it?
My mission is to help people remember, know, and reclaim their true identify as divine beings.
If we really know who we are – we cannot be in conflict with one another or judge and condemn, for the divine can only behold the divine. We would live in Namaste consciousness. Namaste: from the holiest of holies in me to the holiest of holies in you.
There is a lot of talk now about identity theft – about people who have learned to hack into computer banks and steal Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. It creates all kinds of havoc for the victims of this fraud.
Did you know this is nothing new? The first “hackers” appeared around 4,000 years ago. You say there were no computers then; correct, but there were people and there were young, innocent minds. And systemically, year and year, these hackers broke into our minds and souls and removed our memory of who we really are. And it is still happening – Spiritual Identity Theft.
Who are the hackers stealing our spiritual identity? False prophets, religious doctrines, wounded parents who had their identity stolen and don’t know who they are so they can’t remind us who we are. They are the unenlightened, the uninformed, those who believe it’s all about power and control.
There is one big difference between the spiritual identity thieves and the computer hackers:
- The computer hackers simply take the identity and go on about their business
The spiritual thieves not only rob us of remembering who we are, they replace the true identity with false notions and heavy baggage about the unworthiness of human kind.
We are all victims of spiritual identity theft.
I wonder if a burglar alarm went off anywhere when your spiritual identity was stolen. Maybe a little alarm went off in your head the first time you were instructed to say, “Lord, I am not worthy,” and the little voice inside said, “Why am I not worthy – what have I done?”
I’m sure loud alarms go off in heaven. God and the angels are all crying out, “Stop thief!” God says, “Don’t take away their memory of me and how beloved and worthy all of my children are in my eyes.”
There are two types of self-image: the Conclusionistic thinker and the Evolutionistic thinker. Each sees the world from two completely different types of self-images. The conclusionistic thinker operates from a self-image that is based on a strong sense of personal inadequacy. They draw most of their identity, their power, and much of their meaning for living from other people, careers, personal appearance, size of their bank account, their social standing and so on. They measure their identities and their capabilities using an inventory of external assets.
Evolutionistic thinkers live more centered lives, drawing their identity, power, and meaning for living from within themselves. They know they are eternally connected to their unlimited Source, and they measure their identities and their capabilities not by what they have, but by who they are spiritually.
The evolutionistic thinking does not have to have all the answers to apparent problems before he or she makes a decision. Evolutionistic thinkers’ decisions are not based on appearances. They are based on their unlimited spiritual capacity. They know that solutions to each problem that arises will evolve as they are needed.
Jesus was an evolutionary thinker. He thought outside the box. If he were one of a dozen people pondering a challenge, eleven might say “It can’t be done,” and he would say, “Sure it can – with God, there must be a way!” The eleven, focused on external facts, would stand in amazement as the One, connected to the power within, remembered who he was, and accomplished what had been thought impossible.
Jesus never let anyone steal his identity. I am sure many tried but because he had parents that never lost sight of his divine nature, they helped him hold on to it.
None of us, most likely, had/have parents who treated us as the Christ child, so we have some inner work to do to reclaim our true identity. How do we begin to know and remember who we truly are?
- 1. Pray
- 2. Ask
- 3. Listen
- 4. Call the police – the “thought” police. Stop listening to the negative self-talk.
- 5. Speak only Truth about yourself and others (don’t judge, gossip, put down, reject)
It may not be easy, at first, but with practice, we will awaken and remember who we really are. When we do – anything is possible!
September 6, 2009 (Power for this month is WILL)
THE SECRET OF THE UNIVERSE
The following 8 statements, from the Gnostic Gospels (adapted in poetic form by Richard Lavdenslager, licensed Unity teacher, in Pennsylvania) will be discussed. I will read these (italicized) to you and follow with my thoughts.
- 1. Abandon the search for God and the creation and other matters of a similar sort.
- 2. Look for God by taking yourself as a starting point.
The first two sentences might seem a little contradictory, “abandon” while “searching for.” The author seems to be making a distinction between searching and looking.
The word search implies trying to find something that we want but don’t think we have whereas, look means STOP right where you are and SEE what is there. What is it you are to see? “That which is within you taking ownership of all you are.”
- 3. Learn who it is within you who makes everything (its) own and says, “My God, my mind, my thought, my soul, my body.”
The teaching is to learn what is within us and take ownership of all that we are – including our God-self. So, in essence, “We look for God RIGHT WHERE WE ARE.” There is no need to go on a long, frustrating, perhaps unsuccessful search. We already have it!
- 4. Learn the sources of sorrow, joy, love, hate…
- 5. If you carefully investigate these matters, you will find God in yourself.
These two statements are also about learning. Why would we want to learn the sources of sorrow, joy, love and hate? Because our #1 teaching is Life is Consciousness. What we hold in our individual consciousness will manifest in our human experience. Consciousness is the Source of both sorrow and joy, love and hate, and other things such as health and illness, peace and conflict, prosperity and lack. We can choose to make changes, or not. Learning what is within us gives us knowledge.
- 6. Knowledge is insight; it involves an intuitive process of knowing oneself.
- 7. To know oneself…is to know human nature and human destiny.
- 8. To know oneself at the deepest level is simultaneously to know God; this is the secret of the Universe.
These last three statements all flow together. Knowing ourselves is a life-long process. We get enrolled in “human school” from the day we are born on this earth. The irony is that just when we think we’ve got it, that we understand what’s going on and are making appropriate course corrections – we discover that there is more. The good news is in #7, “to know oneself” means the more we explore our own nature, the greater understanding we have of human nature – what makes us and others tick – how consciousness plays out. We can’t know “self” and not know God. The God Code permeates every cell, every fiber, every part of our beingness.
While I agree with all of the ideas in this writing, I believe the secret of the universe goes deeper, that there is more to it; there is always more to it when God is involved.
I think the real secret of the Universe is: we are unstoppable. Because of the Divine nature at the core of all living things, you can’t keep us down (WILL), not for long anyway e.g. wildfires in California, Hurricane Charlie and Katrina, and 9/11). The human spirit cannot be stifled. Through myriad of devastation, the human spirit has risen up and lives are being rebuilt and new life is everywhere present. We will thrive again, we cannot be stopped. Why? Because it is really the spirit of God that lives within us – and you can’t stop the evolution, growth and expression of God. – that’s the real secret of the Universe!
August 30, 2009 – F.A.I.T.H.
Faith is an interesting subject. The author of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament, wrote the words we have used to define Faith for centuries. “Faith is the assurance of things hope for, the conviction of things not seen. (Heb. 11:1) Things hoped for, but not seen. The words ‘hoped for” makes us feel both wishful and doubtful at the same time.
Charles Fillmore, the co-founder of Unity, wrote his own definition of Faith. In his view, “Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with the power to shape substance,” which is another way of saying: “Faith is Imagination working together with the Law of Mind-Action. Thoughts held in mind manifest their same kind. Matthew 9:29 states, “According to your faith be it done unto you.” The Book of John reinforces this statement with, “Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
In his book, Discover the Power Within You, author Eric Butterworth describes faith as “Faith is the perception by which we can see wholeness where there seems to be sickness. It is the conviction that where lack appears, there is plenty, where pain appears there is joy and pleasure, and that in chaos there is harmony.”
Faith is not simply the desire to be whole. It is not the hope that wholeness might just be possible, if only…certain conditions are met. God’s will for us is wholeness and Faith is our ability to perceive wholeness, the intuitive sense of being whole, even in the midst of otherwise. Jesus reminds us, “Pray, believing you have received, and you will receive.”
Right now there are a number of people who are facing challenges never faced before albeit economic, health, employment, relationship, etc. Our world is topsy-turvy with mortgage failures, spiraling health care costs, and lost pensions, not to mention ongoing military interventions.
If you are one of those caught in all this turmoil, have faith, things will improve by maintaining these keys:
- 1. an optimistic mind
- 2. focusing on the good that lies ahead
- 3. remembering that it is today’s thoughts which will manifest as tomorrow’s outcome
It is paramount for us to raise our consciousness to it’s highest level. Your faith determines your consciousness so visualize a new job, a perfect healing, the sale of your house, and the loving support of family and friends.
If you are facing a challenge that may seem beyond your ability to overcome, here’s the primary thing to do: Think not of the problem or the negative situation, but give your thoughts only to the solution.
Faith connects us with God, with the Christ Spirit within us. It guides our way when we turn to God with faith. It is powerful beyond any of our human endeavors, simply because it is through faith that we are one with the Omnipotence and Omnipresence of our Creator.
Using FAITH as an acronym will help us to remember what faith is all about:
- F = Focus on Truth; go beyond your Fears, release the problem; Feel the life force energy of the Universe surrounding and enfolding you.
- A = Affirm health, love and joy and God’s substance of Good, abstaining from negative thinking.
- I = Imagine the perfect outcome. Meditate on I AM, see the solution, image what you want and what is good.
- T = Trust in God’s love for you. Believe in God, God believes in You!
- H = Hold on to what you know and believe is Truth. Speak Truth. Keep the High Watch.
Whatever challenges we are facing, as individuals and as a nation; whatever desires we may hold, even where fulfillment seems like a human impossibility – we must remember that our faith can, and will, make anything possible. We have a miracle working power within us, but we must condition our minds and hearts to both express it and welcome it. That power is nothing more or less than our Faith. And so it is…(Excerpts taken from Rev. Arthur Holt’s Upward Bound Journal #41)
August 2, 2009 – DO IT ANYWAY
This month we are talking about the Power of Zeal (enthusiasm), see The Twelve Powers of Man, by Charles Fillmore.
Zeal helps us be all that we can be. It helps us lead fulfilling lives, call us to new heights.
Do what you are here to do: Think of Paul Simon’s “Hearts Afire” world tour, specifically the concert in South Africa during apartheid. Black and white musicians in his band – fear of violent attacks from those who believed the races should be kept separate. The band met the day before to search their souls about whether to perform or not; strong debate with good arguments from both sides.
Then a proud black drummer stood and spoke, “I am a musician. This is what I am on earth to do. I would rather die on stage playing the music I am here to play than live in fear offstage without fulfilling my purpose.”
Pull the plug: You cannot be doing what you are here to do while continuing to do what you are not here to do.
Stop doing what isn’t “IT” so you can make a space for what is “IT.”
Release anything in your life that does not fit, serve, or honor you.
Walt Whitman boldly advised, “Dismiss whatever insults your soul.”
There is more to you than you are expressing and in order to live a more fulfilling life, you must step forward in courage and confidence.
The caterpillars look up at the butterfly and mutter, “You’ll never get me up in one of those things.”
What you don’t realize is you are one of those things and one day – as you take those bold steps to do what you are here to do – you will soar above your fearful, limiting thoughts and see the big picture.
Alan Cohen says, “As you extricate yourself from a fishbowl existence, you make waves around you. Go ahead and make some waves – an entire ocean awaits!”
Start where you are now: “Never look for the birds of this year in the nests of the last year.” Cervantes
Our history is not our destiny. When we become fascinated with what was, we lose sight of what is, and what could be.
If you are going to change your life for the better, the only time to do it is now.
We are masters of finding all manner of excuses and rationalizations for postponing our joy and fulfilling our purpose (economy, job losses).
Let us take the energy we used to procrastinate and channel it into action. There is no power outside of us that can stop us from doing what we came here to do and being who we are meant to be.
Take what you have and begin to create a life that feeds your soul and fills your heart with joy.
Live from the heart of the servant: We are most fulfilled when we are serving and helping others.
You may not always feel appreciated for all you do for others but as Mother Teresa wrote: DO IT ANYWAY
The qualities of serving, helping, and giving are innate to the human soul. It is what brings a true richness to our lives.
You can ask many of the wealthiest people in our country, and they will tell you their work brought them wealth and success, AND finding ways to serve and help those less fortunate brought fulfillment to their lives.
It’s the difference between success and greatness.
You do not, however, have to be rich and famous to make a difference in people’s lives. You simply begin with the four principles outlined today:
- 1.Do what you are here to do
- 2.Pull the plug
- 3.Start where you are
- 4.Live from a heart of service
July 26, 2009 – Spontaneous Peace
I saw the words, “Spontaneous Peace” written somewhere awhile back and thought, that would be a good talk title. Peace is a popular subject and something we seek to find and have; and, we want it in an instant – spontaneously.
As I was working on this message, I started asking myself, what is peace all about? Is there only one kind of peace? Is peace simple or complex? Can we spontaneously move from a world in conflict to a world at peace?
The questions led me to seek answers in scripture and in some of our Unity writings. In scripture I found:
Jesus: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heats be troubled, neither let them be afraid (Jn. 14:27)
Paul: “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7)
Isaiah: “Thou dost keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusts in thee (IS. 26:3)
Unity writer, John A. V. Strickland, in A Commitment to Peace Through Prayer, states:
“In every age, peace has been on the minds and hearts of people. We can approach this important matter from two viewpoints. From the physical or outer viewpoint, we see peace as the absence of violence. Many people believe that the way to peace is through physical force and control.
In Unity, we believe that lasting peace, which is more than the absence of conflict, comes from human beings finding God and peace within their own hearts and souls. Peace is natural to human beings; conflict is unnatural…Jesus spoke of a peace that is not of the world, of a peace that is not imposed through military force. Jesus taught a message of inner triumph, of peace that can be found no matter what is happening in the world. He said that if we would seek God first within our own souls, the outer things would take care of themselves.
So what about the idea of Spontaneous Peace? I have discerned…there is no such thing. Happenings in the realm of spiritual transformation only seem to be spontaneous. Foundations must be laid and deep cleansing of old scripts, old beliefs and patterns must have been done. It’s like being an “overnight success” in the music business or movie industry.
There is work to be done before we arrive in the state of peace – both inner and out work. For the “outer” activity, we:
- 1. Pray
- 2. Forgive
- 3. Keep your mind on God, not on the problem or conflict
The inner activity – the beingness is given in these words of Rev. John Strickland:
“The answer to lasting peace is unblocking the flow. In this way, we don’t create or make peace as much as we let peace happen, let it flow from within us to others in our world. If the problem is that we block the flow of peace, how do we unblock it and release the soothing, healing, peaceful consciousness? I believe the only way is through developing a deep prayer consciousness.
Prayer is the experience of consciously knowing our oneness with God. We do not pray to change God or even to receive blessings. We become still, open our minds and hearts and focus on God. When we shut out all distractions—negative thoughts and emotions—and center our attention on the one, true Source of good, we receive peace, healing, light, and love as a result. We do not make the things we need or the demonstrations we seek the object of our prayers; we make God the object, and the blessings flow to us. Peace, therefore, is not a passive, “come what may approach to life”; it is the product of a deep, abiding sense of God’s presence, of actively pursuing God within ourselves.
In a sense, we don’t pursue or create peace. We seek God and let God’s peace become known to us in our minds and hearts. Just as prayer is the key to peace within the individual, prayer is also the key to peace on our plant. Let’s not be too critical of governments and military leaders. Instead, let us be about “the Father’s business.” Let us find the peace of God inside us.”
July 19, 2009 – The Principle of Priority - Part 2
"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." - Buddha
Picture a cylindrical jar that you are starting to fill with:
Golf Balls - (representing important things in your life): Your God, your family, your spouse, children, health, friends, pets, church, church family - things that if everything else were lost and only they remained, your life would still be blessed.
Pebbles - (other things that matter): job, house, car, favorite causes, church volunteer work, fun, joy, rest, vacation.
Sand - (everything else, the small stuff): All the things that distract you, frustrate, and irritate you. If you put the sand in the jar first, you don’t have time for the golf balls or the pebbles.
Coffee - when you put golf balls as a priority, there is always time (room for) a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.
One thing that has been left off the Priority List is YOU!
A. Priority List (Tips to Maintain Balance in Your Life)
1. Take breaks in your day. Get out of your office at least once during the day, if only for a few minutes. Go for a walk, or drive to get some coffee or tea.

THE DIFFERENCE
I got up early one morning
and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish
that I didn't have time to pray.
Problems just tumbled about me
and heavier came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered,
God answered, "You didn't ask."
I wanted to see joy and beauty
but the day toiled on, gray and bleak.
I wondered why God didn't show me.
God said, "But you didn't seek."
I tried to come into God's presence.
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My Child, you didn't knock."
I woke up early this morning,
and paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish
that I had to take time to pray.
